The role

To purchase raw materials (Steel and Aluminium), bought out finished parts, sub contract and tooling and equipment to support the manufacture of Steel and Aluminium lockers.

Competencies required 

Experienced buyer (5 years plus) who can work with the current manual processes but has the knowledge and experience to develop more robust processes and develop supplier relationships and commercial agreements.

Key Responsibilities

– Reporting to the site General manager and a dotted line to the Divisional Supply Chain Manager
– Manage and develop a comprehensive supplier base
– Agree frame contracts with suppliers
– Undertake price negotiations with suppliers
– Establish purchasing terms with all suppliers
– Manage raw material stock at the factories and reduce dead stock
– Arrange regular meetings with main suppliers to discuss their innovations
– Conduct benchmarks on main material bought out items
– Raise all purchase orders and call off orders
– Manage price data on ERP solution

Key Working Relationships

Working on a daily basis with the site General Manager and Operations Manager along with suppliers. Also having a dotted reporting line into the Group Head of Supply Chain regarding strategic initiatives and group purchasing.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience 

– At least 5 years previous experience working within this role
– Ability to work independently and without support
– Ability to work with basic manual systems
– Previous experience within an Engineering/Manufacturing business
– Commercial and negotiation skills
– Experience to improve the basic current processes currently in place
– Can do attitude
